As moving home is out of the question, I got permission from Mrs C to make the most of the living room (which only measures about 4m x 3.5m), to turn it into a home cinema and music listening room.

But the provisos were that the tv must not be permanently in front of the window, and that if we change the seating, then it had to have a sofabed included (as short of spare rooms for roaming troubadours and swamp folk).

So, based on a recommendation here on the forum, I got a tv lift http://www.tv-lifts.co.uk/lifts.asp mount the tv on, so that I could move the tv and av rack in front of the window, and speakers to fire down the room...

Then, got a great projection screen fitted by Kent Home Cinema (a 1.3 gain 2m wide Vutec Lectric 1) (not much chat on this forum about projection screens but this is a beauty - silent motor and great image) ...

So, ended up looking like this with the tv screen down...

http://www.flickr.com/photos/61885076@N08/7568446022/...and like this with the projection screen lowered (via 12v trigger on the HDMI 2 output assigned for the projector from the Pioneer a/v receiver)

The screen is 2metres wide and copes very well with the long throw from the Sony HW15 projector.

Thanks Ben, I've had to compromise on the position of the two "side" speakers, so they almost act as front wides, but given it's now a 9.1 system (including two boston acoustic cubes as front heights), I've done as best as I could in a traditional english front room with a fireplace taking up one of the sides.

(I don't know why the pictures are so small - but they get large if I click on them, hope does same for everyone else?)

Sounds really great, particularly when I get a chance to play at higher levels. But being a semidetached house means that is fairly rare. Also means we have to be sensitive to s/w volume.

When the settee was being changed, the difference in acoustics when no settee was incredible - soft furnishings make such an impact to remove the echo/ reflected sounds.
