When I decided to buy a proper AV system at the begining of the month I joined the forum here. I had already got a 40" Samsung, Sky-HD, and a PS3.

I read all the reviews here and elsewhere. I decided that the Sony DA2400es was the receiver I wanted as it met all my requirements.

Then for the speakers.... I had a fairly low budget of around £200 - £250. I had it broken down to the Jamo A102 5.1 or the Tannoy SFX 5.1 set. After reading reviews and lots of help from you guys here I decided on the Jamo's

I got my receiver last friday... did all the connections etc .. connected it to some old Philips cheapy speakers and no subwoofer. Sounded pretty terrable as I expected

Yesterday I got a call to say my set of JAMOS were ready for collecting. Put in all new wires today ... and connected up the JAMOs.... did an auto-calibration with the Sony Receiver.

Put Spiderman 3 in the PS3.

WOW. WOW. WOW.

You know when you hear that something is good, and you buy it with great expectations only be somewhat disapointed.

Well this was the TOTAL OPPOSITE. When you see the speakers at first you think, these look very nice (piano black), but they are so small .... and you think they cannot be too powerful.

So I would like to gratefully thank all you guys (even the Liverpool guys Gerrard & Torres) for your help & advice.

Would like to thank the staff here. I can see why once again this year, you have selected the JAMO's for the best in its class/budget.

I am here in the living room on my laptop, listening to my system with a smile from ear to ear

They were my first speaker package and I was the same - and I bought them before they were reviewed on the basis that they looked the part and were value. I had today off and my brother-in-law, who got me into this game, came over to hear my system (since I bought my BD player and sub). He did not stop raving over it. It's always great to get your own opinion vindicated.

Hi ive got similar set up as you but a sony KDL40W4000 tv, sky HD, PS3 60gb,Sony BDPS350 blu ray player. Im running tv at mo through the jamo ipod speaker dock which uses the 102 sats the same.

If i was to purchase the jamo 5.1 could it be easily changed to 7.1 with 7.1 receiver.

I Like the two yamahas and denon 1909. What would you recommend? Im sure the sony is great amp but i dont want everything to be sony i like to mix and match.

How would you connect a 7.1 setup to these amps is it just a case of 7 speaker inputs.

Was slightly put off buy the fact the cheapest speaker cinema kit on test but after my experience through my 2 and 1 sub that even sounds great And the glossy black 5.1 package looks the bussiness.

Thanks for any help you can give DAZ

Hi dsharratt

Yes and yes.

You can actually buy two extra speakers exactly the same to use at the back set of a 7.1.

Yes it has actually 9 speaker outputs (two front pairs A & B) on the da2400es

As there is not a lot of 7.1 material out there yet, the 5.1 speakers should satisfy you for now.

Remember with 5.1 setup, you connect centre to centre, front to front right & left, and the remaining two to surround right & left (not surround rears).

I would say go for the Sony. The non-Sony speakers will mean you have mixed and matched

Hi Hughes.

I was posting same as you here a week ago, none of the UK companies want our business here in ire.

I managed to get them from Harvey Norman in Blanchardstown. They ordered them in for me from the supplier. Took about a week. Picked them up yesterday. Price was ?319.
