hi folks. Newbie here so first post.

Can you offer your advice please?

just got a room ready for my hifi, including single speaker cable through the walls and floor.

Already got an Ion Obelisk amp and a technics sl1210 turntable

now I need some speakers, before getting a decent turntable and a digital streamer.

however, my mate has offered me a Linn active setup as follows for a grand.

3 Lk100 power amps

Linn Kaber speakers with kustone stands.

active cards and interconnects and 3 power supplies.

question is, I realise this was really good kit, but is it worth going for, or will technology have moved on since and I'm better just using my obelisk with some new speakers?

I would probably use my obelisk as a preamp but would waste my speaker cable spend and effort as I'd need to triwire the active setup.

Any advice welcome

Kanini

Provided you can hear the system working and you like the sound, at £1k I'd grab his arm off. A seriously good set-up, and that money wouldn't even buy you a pair of much less capable active speakerettes.

Hi Kanini, and welcome to the forum.

As others have said, you need to listen.

FWIW I have an LK100 (Kairn Pre) with Karik/Numerik and MA R852s, which sounds very well. I would expect the Active setup to be a good step up from that.

Linn have changed their sonic signature from those days, to something more lively and detailed which for me, can be a little on the analytical side.

IMO. It's well worth considering.
