It's an exciting breakthrough, and I DO really want one. The price will have to come down, and I'll have to have a good year at work to be able to afford one though, so we'll see in 6 month's time.

Will you be able to get this past your missus?? ;)

The subject has already been broached. It seems, LG is slightly more acceptable than Samsung, though I'm not exactly sure why, and I'm not going to ask. *smile*

The price is the biggest factor at the moment, so I couldn't even consider a 4K OLED tv until the price comes below £2000, and I think that's a long, long way off.

Getting back to sanity, I despair of those luddites at Currys. In advertising the LG 55EG960V television, in this Currys link, note that they have NOT highlighted OLED technology as one of the bullet points! An OLED television not trumpeted as OLED?? Apparently 4K resolution has more pulling power than OLED technology. What would gel say? *scratch_one-s_head*

It's apparently a beautiful machine, but even if I had the money I wouldn't get one, 55 inches is the wrong size for me.

I am going to have a demo next week at Currys to see what all the fuss is about. *smile*

Have you seen on AV some people have tuned in a 4K channel, via the satellite tuner!

It is mastered with 4k content but is still 1080p. No need for different cables, player or tv. It's a big con really as its still 1080p!

even when 4k comes out properly, you can keep your good high speed Hdmi cables, no need to upgrade.

He HAS been told this several times already...

How so? The mastering process directly influences the end product on your screen, and there's no claim at all as to these being anything but Full HD. In fact, they existed before any 4K TVs ever appeared.

Most films are mastered in 4k prior to transfer to BD and by saying mastered in 4K, there is no difference. It is either 1080p or it isn't. It isn't in 4k native is it, it's displaying 1080p and nothing else.

my point to Gel was that it is still 1080p and it isn't 4k. It may have been tidied up, cleaned up by using 4 k software or something else, but it isn't 4k and U.S. what Gel was asking.
