LG 55EC930v (OLED) audio sync issues

Hi all,

I'm experiencing something strange (and rather annoying) and hopefully somebody out here can shed some light on it.

I have some digital downloads on an external HDD. When I connect the HDD directly to the LG screen everything plays back as you'd expect it to. However when I connect the HDD to my PS3 or Panasonic DMP-BDT460 the audio will go out of sync on TV shows only. When played back on these devices, there is a Denon AVR1910 in the chain between the LG TV and the PS3/Panasonic.

To be clear: the actual episodes are in sync and what's even stranger they played back perfectly in the same set-up (connected to PS3/Panasonic that's hooked up to the Denon AVR) on my previous Sony Bravia TV.

Ever since replacing the Sony Bravia for the LG OLED I can't watch any episodes without wanting to throw a shoe at my new screen. There also seems to be little to no consistency in how much it goes out of sync. In a desperate attempt I have tried to manually correct the audio delay on the Denon AVR but even when I get it in sync this way, it might go out of sync again in the same episode.

Running out of ideas of things to try here and getting increasingly angry looks from the Mrs. First for spending that money on the LG OLED and now even more so for her not being able to keep up with her shows. *dash1*

Since a digital download movie plays in sync, and considering there were no issues with the Sony TV and since the delay is inconsistent this leads me to believe the LG is doing some sort of incorrect processing on the signal. Perhaps it's attempting to maintain a 24p rate because it incorrectly thinks it's working with a Blu-ray source?

Any advice or similar experience would be extremely welcome at this stage.

Cheers,
G.

I'm trying (with difficulty) to understand the cause of your issues. Is your AV receiver doing any video processing or is it set to bypass the signals straight to your TV?

I was just wondering if both AVR & display were 'double processing' the video signal whether that might cause lip synch issues. Although if this was the case, you would expect this to be a problem with your old TV too.

I do sympathise: it's a most annoying problem that you'd think would have been successfully ironed out years ago.

Hi Leeps,

thank you for your reply. The AVR is set to bypass the signal straight to the TV, no processing being doing there. And as you said: you'd expect this problem to have existed with the previous television too then.

But I have just figured it out (and kicking myself for not thinking of it sooner): something else changed in my setup! I bought a new HDMI cable. I have just moved a few things around so I could reattach my old (shorter) HDMI cable and the synchronisation issues are gone. Apparently the new cable is a dodgy one.

Still a bit strange it didn't consistently have the issues then (it being a digital signal, you'd expect a cable to either work or not). But happy to have found out what the cause was. Now to find the receipt so I can swap that cable...

Well done for finding the culprit. I'll try to lodge that solution away in my brain somewhere for possible future reference.
