Hi

can anyone tell me what the difference is between the 50" LG 50PS3000 that retails for £650 and the Panasonic KRP-500A that goes for over £2000?

Both have the same amount of features by the looks?? Whats with the massive price difference?

You need to see them both together to believe the difference. You can also say the same about the more expensive models that LG make, there is a difference.

We are talking about the Pioneer here, right? It's just that typed Panasonic.

As most people will know on these forums, Contrast Ratios are not always to be believed. Pioneer just quote their's as 'Extreme'.

Let's compare cars...

A 2.0 diesel Ford Focus has 138bhp, but a 2.0 diesel BMW has 177bhp. You pay for quality.

Sorry, I did indeed mean Pioneer.

I understand what you say by quality but if both are 1080p and have an aspect ration of 2,000,000:1 then surely they will be similar if not identical or am i just being naive?

Im also slightly concerned about the shelf life os a Plasma Tv, they state that after 25 years they lose half their picture viewing quality, if this is correct then wouldn't the standard of picture be significantly reduced after 5 years, and a Plasma with darker blacks would have an even more profound reduction after 5 years??

I wouldn't go by contrast ratios, they are generally highly exaggerated. Without sounding harsh, I think you are being slightly naive. The eyes will show you the difference.

The avergae plasma life is about 60,000 hours.

how do you know they last that long? you cant be sure of that either if you say the contrast ratios arent right?

The life span of TVs can be proved, I've got a couple of friends who's plasmas have lasted for over 5 years now, and they're still going strong. If you look at reviews online, contrast ratios are tested and all companies figures are proved incorrect.

you dont know how long your mates watch tv getting your figures from your mates eh?

So is it right that the more expensive sets with sharper colours and deeper blacks will have a shorter life span??

Would it also not be advised if I was to hook the set up to a PS3 because of the screen burn??
