Hey,

This is quite a difficult problem to explain properly but it's driving me crazy!

I recently purchased a lenco direct drive turntable and yesterday I set it up with a preamp into my stereo.

Everything seemed fine until I started noticing something very very weird. About 2/3 times per side of an LP there will be a very quick tempo glitch. It's like not even half a second but enough to be very noticeable.

Its a brand new turntable and I've tried new and old records to see if I can work it out but it seems totally random.

Im a bit new to all this so if anyone can think of something to sort this id be beyond grateful!

Can only guess that the platter is not 'biting' firmly on the spindle. Is it one with a strobe on the rim, and if so can you see a speed blip?

But it sounds like a trip back to get a replacement...

Yeah looking at the strobe the speed is all over the place. I know I can return it but it was a steal for the money from work and can't get any more in. Shame I can't just get it working properly!

Perhaps some mechanical interference on the platter? Have you checked if there isn't a bit of plastic film or polystirene 'catching' the platter - something small by the pivot? Otherwise you're looking at caps or even the quartz controler...

I am no expert but would say this maybe an arm bearing problem rather than having anything to do with the platter or drive train if it only happens 2 or three times per side.

I may well be wrong.
