Hi

I am a regular reader of this forum but this is is my first post.

I am considering buying either Arcam FMJ A32 (cannot demo as used only option) or Leema pulse to improve the stereo performance of my system.

I mostly listen to pop, jazz, acoustic and classical music.

Thanks for your suggestions regarding which one of the amps will be better suited for my system

Current system: Arcam avr 300, (front channels biamped) Marantz cd 6000 ose ki (modded with audiocom superclock4) and Dali Ikon 6 speakers.

Van Den Hul The name interconnect, QED silver anniversary speaker cable, Tacima mains conditioner, Russ Andrews yello power cable & Atacama av stand.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either TBH, but I'm very happy with my Leema Pulse - bought recently to improve stereo listening! If it's any help, my gut feeling is that it is clearer and more dynamic than the A85 which I had before going down the AV route.

A handy feature is that it's impossible to blow something by forgetting which mode you're in, as the volume is automatically reduced when changing input.

Thanks to Joelsim and Sorreltiger for the suggestions.
I will wait for a good deal on either of these amps.

Given that you have the AVR300 and are presumably going to send front L&R through the stereo amp then surely the A32 has to be the favoured option as that will match very closely with the tonal balance of the AVR300 (being from the same manufacturer) and give you the best consistency between front L&R and other channels on movie soundtracks.

I used to have a set-up like this with an A32 and a Denon surround amp and you could detect the slight shift in tone as effects panned or shifted between the front channels. So I say stick with the same make if at all possible (and definitely audition if not).

Wouldn't an arcam P35 (or new equivilant) be better and cheaper? Then use the "pass through" (something or other) on the AVR300 to listen to music sources?

A friend uses this way and it sounds pretty good!

Hi

Thanks for the suggestions. I managed to demo Leema pulse at home.

In my set up , I preferred the sound quality of my Arcam avr 300 for stereo.

Though the dynamics were impressive in low volumes, to my ears Leema pulse sounded a bit lean and forward especially with voices.

Probably I am just so used to the Arcam sound. I will try to find a A32 as suggested by JoelSim and Dan Turner.

I am not sure whether using P35 will improve the stereo performance noticeably as Arcam avr 300 is already biamped. (with channels 6&7)

Can't vouch for the Arcam, but the Leema Pulse was very impressive when I demoed it a month or so back. Ultimately it didn't quite gel with my existing system, so back it went (and hopefully on to a good home now) but it was a bit of a star with some material.

It does sound like you want a warmer amp. Arcam A32 would be a good choice in that case, especially with what you already have.

Cautionary note - I have DALI Ikon 6's and Arcam A32 and the combination didn't work for me. I find Dali's to be somewhat mellow and neutral, so combining them with an amp that is warm and laid-back like the A32, in my case, resulted in a thick sound with recessed mids and poor instrument separation.

I haven't heard your source or cables, so perhaps it might be a different story for you. If you listen to classical, however, I am not sure that you would find the Dali / Arcam combo to be sufficiently dramatic....

If you already like how your present Arcam gear sounds with Dali's then you will probably find the A32 to your liking. I really didn't and feel that Ikon 6's need a more lively amp to bring the best out of them.

Just an update. After trying the Leema pulse, I managed to buy an used Arcam A32. Excellent dynamics and integrates well with Arcam AVR300. For now I am cured of upgraditis.( Had a warning from the boss woman that any relapse in future will be dealt with severe consequences)
