plasma wins every time for me,but the best thing is go and have a look see what you think .the only time plasma might not work is if you have a lot of light coming through a window hitting the screen as thay tend to reflect more.

but most screens are pretty good now

you say you have seen them for 500-600 but your budget is 500 ? there are a few for 500 but i would imagine there not that good at that price . if your budget is 500-600 then you have more choice !

the sony 40ex503 is 5star performer but is more money . my friend has the 40ex703 side lit led but imo the picture is rubbish compared to my plasma espec on sd stuff. a lot of people seem to agree that plasma has a more natural picture and led dont seem real , but each to there own .

at the end of the day its your choice between the 2 , just go and have a look and play with the settings if you can at the shop as most are all set at bright and play animation to make the picture look WOW .

what sets have you in mind ?

You are right about that. And for plasma screens this size it is pretty simple, you can choose either Panasonic or - Panasonic.
For 37 inches the only model available is P37X20. For 42 inches there are more options.

INMHO led/lcd give a vibrant and more colourful picture. Plasma might be more natural to some. to me it's a little dull - but still good all the same. Plasma uses up a lot more energy compared to led/lcd screens. Something to think about.

cheers tonky

Plasma has its own advantages of faster refresh rates, better motion handling without any artificial processing, more natural rendition of colours etc.

But my advice to you is: go to the shops and compare the TVs yourself. Don't bother too much about which technology it's employing: plasma or LCD or LED lit LCD. Just buy what looks good to you.

as someone who has had a variety of both , i have always been a fan of Plasma,i have found the picture quality is just a bit more natural, and i do quite a lot of gaming, however ,

At the moment i have an LED because it suits my personall circumstances, i have a very bright lounge with a window opposite the screen, and it is also very thin so ideal for wall mounting .

There are pluses and minuses to both so i would second bigboss and say go with your own instincts and do some demos.

It will probably use twice the power of the equivalent size LED LCD

Personally I would still go for a plasma Panasonic 42g20.

Seen them new online for less than £600. Bargain IMHO
