Good good goooood

I heard some people said by leaving the HiFi system running through periods of time will improve sound quality. How about AV system? Should we leave our receiver switched on at every time?

I experiment my receiver running for 1 week, resulted better performance in sound clarity, but somehow lack of weight. Or the clarity of sound made it like loosing weight. I didn't use subwoofer in the experiment.

Save power and turn it off. It makes no difference.

I don't think something magical happens after 24 hours to make it sound better, but I've definitely noticed a slightly better sound from my Onkyo receiver when it's been running a while and has "warmed up", though it's really only with musical playback you'll really notice it I think.
However, I'm a good bunny and switch mine off when not in use to potentially save the planet (who knows if it's true but prefer to err on the side of caution!). The 905 still sounds fantastic even when it's first switched on anyway.

Most receivers will have fully warmed up after 30 mins, max 1 hour, when you may be able to hear a difference but to say something changes after the likes of 24 hours is ludicrous. Due to the hungry nature of a receiver I would say it is wise not to leave it on all the time!

ÿSome higher end manufacturers advise you to leave their equipment on all the time, as some of this equipment does take ages to reach it's optimum, but they design the equipment with this in mind.ÿ

Leaving your amp or cd player on standy mode lengthens the life of your internal components. That's what the experts say.

It will do, and leaving it fully all systems go will lengthen it further (or at least put less stress on the components) but I wouldn't lose too much sleep over it...

It depends largely on the equipment... Do you have a high-end, 10.000+ system, where each coponents easily weigh 10-20 kgs, it might more sense than so...

Different brands, qualities and technologies makes it quite impossible to actually give you any piece of real advice here, and anything you read will most likely be based on religious affiliations, chance and/or gross generalization. The best advice is to simply try doing it over a week - and see if you feel that it makes a difference.

In general terms there might be two factors that you should consider. The negative impact is of course the increased power consumption. How much will again depend on your equipment - but the most accurate way of finding out, is to plug in a meter and measure yourself. One thing you might consider is that this energy is not just completely wasted... most of it is converted and dissipated as heat... In the summers, this will not mean anything - but in winter it will actually contribute a little to the heating of your house. Of course electricity is the least cost effective way of heating your house - but still...

On the positive side one can point out that you might improve the life of your gear considerably. One of the enemies of high quality gear is constant variations in temperature, and leaving it on, definitely reduces these changes in the microenvironment substantially. As cheap gear normally have a much shorter lifespan, this effect is quite negliable.

So in the end of the day ...not a straight answer, once again you just have to trust yourself...

Kind regards,
Claus
