I’m currently tweaking a Pioneer A400 amp including mods to the phono stage. I’ve changed the coupling caps in the main amp section (to excellent results) but am struggling to find a solution to the phono stage coupling caps. They’re 22uf which is big for a film cap, I can find polypropylenes to suit but they’re expensive and too large to fit in the space.

Whats considered the next best thing when it comes to coupling caps - are there any electrolytics more suited to the job than others and will bypassing with a film cap help?

Difficult to find info on this as usually where coupling caps are involved everyone says “use polypropylenes not electrolytics” but I think I have settled on Silmic IIs bypassed with films. A recap and a new Op-Amp should hopefully turn the A400s so-so phono stage into something much better.
