I want to upgrade my Wharfedale 9.1's to something much bigger- bigger drivers and bigger cabinet- for the extra soundstage and power.

So far, I've only found is the Tannoy F2 which are discontinued (and arn't even that much bigger).

What are the best large cabinet bookshelves around? I'd rather have bookshelves than foorstanders by the way but will get fs if it's the only way..

Thanks a lot

Hi sezchwarn

What other components do you use? What do you generally listen to? Room positioning? Your budget?

Thanks

HI,

Im using a denon dm37dab. Tried out some ancient sharp/b and o speakers that are about 16/17 inches high and they sound much better in some respects than my wharfedales, despite being sharp, presumably due to the larger cabinet. I listen to normal music, sometimes dance/d and b. I'm wary of stating a budget as people tend to use it as a minimum rather than a maximum, a bit like speed limits. I mean I do have a budget but I'd like to spend much less than it if pos, I will pay whatever it costs to get what I want, but no more.

Acoustic Energy Aelite 2 can be a good candidate. 233 pounds delivered from AE eBay shop.

Dynaudio Excite X16s are quite large for bookshelf speakers and they sound like floorstanders. Fanstastic speakers for the money.

I also really like the new MA RX2.

Now that we know sezchwarn is using a DM37, the Dynaudio's can be ruled out - they're a 4 ohm load, and not exactly an average sensitivity at 86dB. The Monitor Audio RX2 is a far more sensible recommendation at 6 ohms and 90dB.

I'd suggest B&W 685's for audition. Generally amp friendly (8 ohms at 88dB) and very well rated.
