Hi Guys

Just upgraded all my speakers to Kef 1Q5se fronts iQ10 for the rears. Just this afternoon my Kef sub from my setup from the 2005.2 as started buzzing I have done the usual and found its a problem with the amp board and could cost upto £150+ all the postage. If I decide to buy new which sub would serve my new speakers well. My Amp is Onkyo 606

Same happened with my old KEF sub i think its a common fault!

I use MA RS set up now with a BK Electronics Sub which is just amazing value for money.

It's just an insult at the amount of KEF sub's that have problem's. If you look in ebay you'll be amazed at the amount of faulty KEF sub's being sold for spair's or repair, they have the worst reliability record. I was going to buy one but luckily a freind of mine said they are totally rubbish because they do not last long. KEF should be extremily ashamed of themselve's.

I am beginning to think on the same lines, its a shame because the iQ5se and the iQ10 are fantastic for the money. I am just in a dilemma to what Sub to get to work in Harmony with my new Kefs

I think you will find it's a problem with the power suppy board rather than the main amplifier board.
This type of fault is usually caused by electrolytic capacitors breaking down, especially if they are under spec'ed in the first place.
Shouldn't be too much trouble for a competant repair shop to troubleshoot and replace.

Talking about service, I managed to blow a PSB sub a few years back due to excessive use of a dbx-120A subharmonic processor and when I contacted the PSB distr in Norway they dispatched a new board the same day, no charge.

Now that's service

Emailed Creative Audio in Shrewsbury they will carry out repairs while I wait. The cost is £100 for a board swap, I think I will go for that. The Kef sub is great while its working and I have always been satisfied with it. The other problem is to get like for like if I went for new now the cost is going to be circa £400/£500 which after what I have just spent on speaker upgrades, the in house accountant will properly throw a wobbly
