Ok, first post on here.

I have been reading What Hi Fi for some years and dreamed of buying a great system. Well, that day has arrived and just wanted some information or ideas.

I work as a network engineer and some years ago visited a residential customer of mine at his home. He had music playing on a system which I paid no attention to until he played Prince's "Emancipation" album, an album I knew well. Chatting to him, he took me into his lounge and demonstrated the equipment he had recently purchased.

From memory, he had Musical Fidelity's A3 amplifier and CD player, highly rated by critics at the time, some others appalled by the "bling" looks of the thing. He was running these through a pair of Kef Reference 2.2. I fell in love immediately. Of all the music he played, there was one a track sung by Desiree from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack which staggered me, The piano was to the left of the soundstage and she was centre stage, breathtaking. Made all the more so because of just the instrument and singer.

Anyway....to cut a long story short, lol, I'm in two minds about the speakers and electronics, Obviously they can be purchased online or from Ebay on occasion. The CD and amp have obviously been superceded as the years have gone by, and nowadays I'd like to listen/ audition the Cyrus latest range of Cd and Amp, I will be buying the Kef's because despite being 2nd hand, the sellers have looked after their equipment and I fell in love with them on first listen.

Will the Cyrus work with these speakers or is there better equipment available which will push the Kef's. I do like the look of Naim also.

Any suggestions/ advice welcome.

Thanks

I also liked the 2.2 when I heard them. I do not own them.

But if you heard MF amps driving them, get some, old or new will have the same signiture of sound. I have contemplated them also, I like the build and ethos of the company.

I do not like Naim apart from the build quality, their systems sound anaemic and I was shocked when a good friend of mine raved over them. This brough home to me just how much people are different and now only trust my own ears ( pretty obvoius rant really).

EVERY review is a guide, and from some mags. not that accurate either.

Speakers being an electromachanical design, do age, but their life span is long.

As for amps they can last for ever.

The wheel hasn't been re- invented and amps from 25 years ago are still exceptional.
