Kef LS50 overkill??

Hi All, My current system looks like this..

Yamaha RXV675 reciever
Monitor Audio BR5's
Monitor Audio RSW12
Kef 3005 centre and surrounds.

As I have a smallish room I'm considering getting rid of the BR5 floor standers and replacing them with some nice little KEF ls50s however I'm wondering whether or not this is going to be overkill as I only have a fairly budget range 7 Channel Yamaha amp, in other words I'm not sure if my amp will provide the kefs that quality sound they deserve.

I had the Kefs for a couple of years and wouldn't recommend what you are proposing, they need quality amplification. I wouldn't say they favour all music genres either, imho... they weren't great with rock.

My LS50s perform fine with most genres of music I listen to - in my opinion - but maybe that's down to my electronics. Ideally you'll need to be looking at Yamaha's Aventage AV receivers as a starting point to make the LS50s worth while.

I have the ls50's with a budget amp, the yamaha v673 they still sound very good compared to most. However it is a work in progress and you can always upgrade the amp at a later date (which I plan to) once I have my ls50 center.

The LS50's are great with all genre's, add a sub and they just get better, quality amplification is paramount.
