Kansas, mustard waistcoats, romper-suits and Platinum Quads

Another totally absorbing review of a product I can't possibly afford, but so interesting I read it to the end then read it again...

I'd love to listen to this Quad set-up even if just to compare it with the old Quad sound: brilliant power amps and those sweet yet murky preamps. Out of my price range too unless I take out a second mortgage...not a bad idea.

Ah, Kansas. One of my favourite bands ever...

You'd hate it Chebby. They look like this:

Now we'll be told that Toto is one of John's favourite bands too.

Give these lyrics

The wild dogs cry out in the night

As they grow restless longing for some solitary company

I know that I must do what's right

As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti

I seek to cure what's deep inside, frightened of this thing that I've become

I hope not

Not the first time that it's been thought that I may be a friend of Dorothy.

Not really (though I did see them at the Shepherd's Bush Empire a few years back). The guitar solo in Rosanna is one of the greats though...

Toto,of course, featured the brilliant part-time Steely Dan drummer Jeff Porcaro, who died in a bizarre gardening accident.

(Nerd question: which stereo channel is Jeff drumming in on the Dan's 'Parker's Band', and who's the drummer in the other channel?)

Oh yes, Quad Platinums. Look very good. Hopefully will hear in Bristol, though I've usually been disappointed with the sound in the IAG room there.

Can't wait to hear if the Quads justify the 5000 pounds of investment.

Right now not seeing any of the IAG brands on the Bristol Show exhibitors list.

EDIT: Scrub that - they're on the Bristol Show site's news page, but not yet updated on the exhibitors list. As you were...

Very good write-up of the QUAD Platinum DMP and Stereo power amp in last month's HiFi World. It's been years since QUAD first said they were producing a 'Platinum' series - perhaps the time spent developing the products has paid off.
