Who on here uses MC17 as their Music Centre Software?

I have just downloaded this and to be honest after using itunes and Foobar2K this is so dam difficult to use.

I keep getting error messgaes with regards to the files....telling me MC17 encountered a problem whilst tagging and most of my cover art no longer exists.

I thought this would be the perfect piece of software to use......but in reality its difficult and extremely hard to setup!!! Do I really want to pay £30.00 or whatever it equates to for something this difficult to use???

I'm not using Media Centre but Media Jukebox, the free one. Do you need video and pictures as well as music? If you don't just use the free one.

I found Media Jukebox hard to come to grips with when I first started using it. I came from iTunes. I stuck with it and think it's great now. Podcasts are a little hard to get to grips with. They're nowhere near as slick as iTunes but everything else is great.

I tried Foobar, which you like, but couldn't get on with it at all.

I used to use J River for a while and it's always had a few quirks but on the whole a very good piece of software. Then, I discovered XBMC. Finito.

XBMC is superb. If you are after bit perfect, you have it (WASPI is integrated). If you are after super fast, brilliant UI, it has it too.

For the record, I use XBMC for movies and tv series too. I have an hdmi connection for movies which gives me HD sound in 5.1 mode and then another audio setting for my stereo playback. Digital optical from PC to DAC utilising WASAPI mentioned.

There are plenty of skins to choose from. I use AEON and it's fantastic. The scraper picks up all albums and artist artwork.

A couple more things - XBMC can be controlled by your iPhone or a Windows Media Center remote control. Oh, and it's FREE!!

Yep, am a big fan of MC17 (and MC15 that I used before). I agree the tagging takes a bit when it doiesn't happen automatically, but everything runs smoothly for me. Occasionally have to re-label tracks on a compilation album if I want them all to appear under the same album cover, which is a pain, but easy to do.

It's easy to configure for WASAPI / or ASIO whether using optical, or USB. There are a large number of things to adjust should you want to, it's a tweakers dream.

Well after spending some time with this and getting to grips with everything, MC17 does seem to be an excellent piece of software.

I have managed to download the majority of my artwork (in fact moreso than iTunes ever used to find) and have also set up a library option that enables me to choose between FLAC or Apple Lossless files, whilst having the benefit of all music in one piece of sofware.

Obviosly the more you use it the easier it becomes and I am glad I stuck at it.

Its just unfortunate that I am using Windows XP on the Netbook and therefore ASIO or WASAPI won't work with my DAC...so Direct Sound it is for now.

I may look at upgrading to Win7 and using WASAPI. I was using ASIO4ALL but unfortunately it causes problems when you want to use Spotify.....you have to keep changing all the settings on the PC to get Spotify to Play and then change them all back for JRiver again.....and that is just to much of a faff.

How do you "de-feature" features?

I tried using it play a DVD on Friday evening, but it took ages analysing the disc and my sons ran out of patience. If it plays a disc, does it still bypass the internal PC soundcard and stream audio into the DAC?

I can't check now because all my discs are sealed up in boxes!
