I heard that there's going to be a Sony system similar to the DAV-IS10 but without the DVD player. I was looking into getting the DAV-IS10 for use with my PS3 but I don't really need the DVD player.

Has anyone got any idea whether this is true and when it will be out?

Don't know, but magazine Ed Richard Melville and I are (finally) off to see Sony's product managers on June 6 so I'll make sure we find out!

Of course, you could always use it without using the DVD. When I had my old Sony DAV-S550 I used the whole thing, I bought my upscaling DVD recorder one day, then just used the 550 for sound duties. I would imagine the IS-10 has digital inputs if my old 550 from 5 years back did. This way you can continue to use your DVD. (Or conversely. Shift your DVD player to a different room, or sell it. Then use the IS-10 in its entirety.)

Indeed, at £350 (I think around about the last price I saw it at), the DAV-IS10 is great value for money even if you never use the DVD player. It does have both a digital coaxial and a digital optical input for your other DVD player as well (or PS3).

........and unlike my PS3, the Dav-IS10 has been 'multiregioned' so I use it for my Region 1 dvd's. The cost of a dvd drive is so small that a Dav-IS10 without dvd would not represent much of a saving. A 'Blu-rayed' Dav-IS10 would be another matter.
