Is the surround sound input direct from the tv (ie no amplification)?

When you connect a tv audio output to a surround system, does the signal come straight from the tv without the tv amplifying it, and would that be on phono outs?

The signal would come from the TV directly and it is at a fixed level - so not amplified (unless the headphone output was used). It is usually via Phono outputs or Optical Digital.

The diction on my new tv could be a little better, so if it is not amplified on the phono outputs then the diction problem will not be there as another amplifier will amplify the signal and also use different speakers

I once rented a TV that had an adjustable line level output. The volume control was hidden in one of the menus.

What sort of issue are you having and which TV is it?

My tv is a phillips 37PFL7603D, the picture quality along with the design of the tv with ambilight is very good, but I feel the diction could be a little better, the rest of the sound is very good

The speech is not very clear when connected to an external amplifier?

Or the speech is poor when listening through the TV speakers?

I don't know if it is just me but I find the diction through the tv is not as good as my old crt sony which I have recently thrown away, it could be that I am over magnifying the problem, it seems to vary depending on what program I am watching, and some programs are fine, on the crt everything sounded fine
