Hi

When I bought my Pioneer DVD 262 back in 2000 I was sold a £60 S-video to scart cable being told is was the best option.

Now I have a new 42 inch Pana plasma I'm thinking about connections and notice the player also has a component out - so 2 questions.

1. Why do you think I was recommended s-video in the first place? (system bought from 7 Oaks)

2. Would I notice much improvement with a component cable ? (sooner or later though the player will be replaced by BD so spending any money on cables now is probably a waste of money- but I'm interested in people's opinions.

thanks

Nail/head.

S-video was one of the better ways of sending video back in the day (though probably not 60 quid's worth better than RGB Scart, and certainly not as convenient). You'd be better off saving your money for a BD player or an upscaling DVD player (which can be had for less than a hundred quid now).

Get yourself on ebay and bag yourself a QED or Chord component cable for about £30 (they are £90 in the shops), you will definitely notice a difference over S Video. As JD has mentioned, there are some amazing deals out there now for upscaling players and BD players but unless your screen has hdmi, I feel that you might as well wait until you get one that has.

Thanks guys

Yes my TV does have 3 HDMI inputs (it's a new Pana). I also have the Chord HDMI cable (WHF subscription gift!) sitting in the cupboard awaiting units to connect.

I think the answer is to wait till I get a BD player as money spent on cables and / or another DVD player would more or less pay for one... I'm just waiting for prices to come down like many of us - and some more content to come out!

Thanks for replies.

ps - at first I thought "Nail/head" was some sort of insult!!
