I'm thinking of buying a mains power cleaner/conditioner for my home cinema system, I'm just not sure wether or not these types of product are more benificial on hi-fi systems, and i was wondering if my home cinema would see noticable benifits from using one??

Kinda depends on your system - I'd do everything else to optimise the system before investing in mains products (says he running DVD, receiver and TV on the end of Chord Co Power Chords, and with a couple of ancient Lynwood mains cleaners I found at the back of the WHFSV stockroom years back!)

Doesn't happen too often - to give you some idea, the cleaners were acquired about five years ago, and were left over from a magazine we used to publish which fizzled over a decade ago.

I bought a fairly pricy Arcam FMJ + ProAc D15 + Chord Cables Hifi system last year and I could swear that it sounded better in the demo room. More detail and better defined bass is what I remembered. The only difference between my setup and the showroom - I was told - was that they use a mains cleaner (Isotek @ approx £600). Once I paid for the move to Home-Theatre and then when that next/extra bonus comes in I will borrow one of these from that shop with a view to buying one. I guess it would make a difference. One thing to consider is that expensive HiFi kit already works hard to filter the mains power, so to get an improvement you have to spend even more. On lower budget gear you might get away with less.

I'd guess that JoelSim had something a bit more senior than "cleaner" in mind.

Still nice to know you kept them on for five years while you sorted out a new job for them.

I've just upgraded my speaker cables to the silver aniversary xt cables and upgraded the sub cable too, and it has improved the overall sound of the system but i'm always up for more improvment and getting the most from my existing equipment, so if a mains cleaner would do this, would it be a viable option or would i be better off saving for a new set of speakers to make a bigger improvment?

current system, panasonic 37px60, ps3, tosh hd dvd, onkyo 605, celestion avp 305 speakers.[quote user="Andrew Everard"]
