I am looking to purchase my first av receiver and am trying to get the most out of it i can and make it a centre piece but it just seems to be getting complicated. Really i think i will be happy if in addition to main features i can use my ipod and listen to radion aswell but i would like as little wires and additional equipment as possible.

Any suggestions or does anybody have a setup thats easy and works well

You're stepping into an area where there is no return because of the thrills it will bring you. Your best bet is to read What hi fi magazine and this forum. Pick what you think will be good for your needs. Then get out to a shop and audition at least three brands. Your ears will pick the right amp. You don't mention a budget which makes it hard to point you in a direction. I take it this will be for music also in which case you need to be careful picking the right amp.Yamaha,Denon,Marantz ,Pioneer,Onkyo. Are all good in there own way.If you can use HDMI conceptions this will cut down on the use of wires.

i have a budget of around £1500 and was looking at either the yamaha zvr3900 or the denon 4308a but i think denon have now priced this out for me with the recent price rise.

speaker wise i am looking at the B&W 685 setup or the 684 and maybe the monitor audio silver rs1 av what do you think obviously i wil audition them but its good to listen to other opinions.

regards mark

Both the Yamaha and Demon will be good with the B&W speakers and Monitor Audio. In fact you're looking at some good kit there so I would say it's time to get out and let your ears decide.

If you like the Denon do a bit of research price wise on the net. When you find the cheapest price print it out and take it into the dealer, they will do a deal for you. Buying local is better for back up.
