Hi everyone.

Having looked around i couldn't find an answer here hence this post.

Ok i have a theatre system with MA speakers and an onkyo receiver. I want to get a quality ipod dock to connect to the onkyo and play my vast collection through the system. I already use an onkyo ND-s1 dock. While i am happy with the sound the problem is seeing the ipod from accross the room to change tunes. When i bought the dock i naturally assumed i could get the itunes display on my tv so i would have no problems. I think this is terrible design faults with this dock. As it is i need to get up every time i change tunes and my eyes are 20/20.

Are there any docks that reproduce good sound and can show the itunes display on a TV through the receiver? Yes i know i will never get the perfect quality sound through an ipod but i have a lot of stuff on there and an ipod dock gives me the best access to it.

I have a 160g ipod classic. If anyone can give me any info i would be sooooooo greatful. I've struggled on for 2 years with this now. Even tried a big magnifier in front of the ipod display but its useless.

Is it too much to ask in these times of amazing technology to have your itunes displayed on your TV so you can see them from a distance while its on a dock?

The Pure i20 and Cambridge id100 both have video outs, as does the Apple Universal dock (ottomh). However, you need to do some investigation as to whether either will put the iPod display on the screen, as they may only output video when a video is playing. I couldn't get the Cambridge to display video at all for what worth, though I may have been doing it wrong...

I was about to sudgest buying a second hand atv2 as no doubt there are a lot on eBay at the mo, but the prices they are selling for are unbelievably high. Stock ATV2s are going for £70-£80.

There is a boxed jail broken Atv2 on eBay for £104! I may jailbrake mine, sell it on eBay and buy an ATv3!

Thanks for your replies. The apple tv looks interesting. Will have to find out how it works, i still want to play my ipod through the onkyo dock but see if its possible to go through the atv too fo the on screen. Will have to do a bit of research on this. I don't mind paying a few quid as having itunes on your big tv and being able to go through the ipod menu from accross the room will be like heaven.

I think the apple tv (with iTunes match) is the easiest solution.

The biggest advantage of itunes match coupled with a atv2 is that you no need to have your whole library on the carrier to play your music. No need to have the ipod directly connected to the reciever, you can always stream music from the ipod to the atv. Since you can control itunes on the atv with the remote app on the iphone, i assume its the same on an ipod. That way you can control itunes from whatever your sofa or whatever.

So far apple hasn't made video airplay available to revievers so i assume its the same on any other dock, until they make it possible to stream video you probably won't be able to have iTunes visual on the tv...

So if i get an apple tv i can access all my music (which is currently on my ipod classic) and get the user interface on my TV screen?

I have read on apple forums that an ipod classic will not talk to apple tv because it has no operating system?

Am i the only person in this world who simply wants to place an ipod on a dock and see what i can see on the ipod display on a much larger TV screen without using binoculars from accross the room?

If i have all the music on itunes on my PC i would be able to stream to my apple tv, but would be losing the quality i get from going through the onkyo ND-S1?

If i could see my ipod on my tv by using an apple tv i would gladly buy one. I read the user manual online and there is no mention of ipod classic.

I may seem incredibly dumb but i can't find out how to do this...

If you use iTunes match, you can stream all your music from tha apple servers to your atv, so no need to have a nas or laptop switched on.

Alternately you can stream to the atv from your laptops iTunes, or from a nas if you are happy jailbreaking the atv.

The classic is not supported much these days, but if you hunt around for a Phillips DLA99901 dock it should put track names on the telly from a classic.

Thanks fo your help. I have been trying to find a philips dock as it does exactly what i'm looking for. They seem very rare now though.

Are there any other docks available that show a user interface for the ipod on the TV screen?

Could i copy my ipod contents onto an external hard drive and connect that to an ATV and play my music that way too?

All i want is to listen to my ipod through my theater system and to be able to navigate through the library on my TV screen, it doesn't have to replicate my ipod but just let me see it onscreen.

Sorry Paul but what is a NAS?

I never really took any notice of ATV's before because i thought they were big screen TV's and i already had one.

I know jailbreaking the ATV involves unlocking features through downloading a patch or some software from an online vendor.

The laptop i had all my itunes library on had to be wiped and reinstalled so my music is only on my ipod. I can get software to copy from the ipod to a laptop so that wouldn't be a problem. Most of my music was not purchased from itunes though, will that be a problem?

Hello all

In the end i went for an alpple tv and icloud. Very happy with the results. Great for my music and for movies too. I run it through the onkyo receiver and the sound is great with movies aswell as music.

I can now browse and change tunes from the other side of the room....yyyyeeeaaahhhhh
