Does anyone know when we get iPlayer on Panasonic Freesat TVs? I bought one of of the first Freesat TVs, but it appears it's been forgotten about. I am still using a pc to watch iPlayer.

Will the Panasonic Freesat recorders also allow you to watch iPlayer?

Is 4OD, Demand 5 etc also coming to Freesat?

I emailed Panasonic to ask when they would be making iplayer available on their tvs. This is the reply I got"We are aware that features on Freesat such as BBC iplayer are in beta testing at the moment on some Freesat set-top boxes, but we have no further information on testing with other productsWe trust that the above information will be of assistance to you. However, of course, if you should have any further queries, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0844 844 3852 or email us using the following email address:customer.care@panasonic.co.ukKind Regards,"

Poor show from a company who championed freesat

Hi Nick

Do you know whether or not the June on air upgrade will also deliver the iplayer facility to the Panasonic DMP-BD60? It already has access to YouTube (and hence the Ch4 and 5 equivalents) but the much talked of access to iPlayer does not yet seem to be there.

Thanks

Karen

Any news on when BBc i-Player might arrive on my Panasonic TX-L37G10? I think I read somewhere that the G10 series should be getting an update sometime this summer. Anyone got any news on this? Thanks in advance.

It seems that this is not happening any time soon. Got email reply today from Panasonic

In response, unfortunately the planned update for the BBC iplayer service for Panasonic Freesat televisions and Diga Blu-ray recorders has been delayed. We sincerely apologise for this delay but stress that this is due to further testing being required to ensure that it meets Panasonic's high production standards.

Funnily enough when I turned on my Panny TX-L37G10 last night on Freesat I got the red button prompt 'Get iplayer' which when pressed told me all I need to know about connecting up. But, of course, when the instructions are followed the iplayer is nowhere to be found. I wonder if the BBC assumed Panasonic would be ready and scheduled in the prompt?

We've put in a call to Panasonic's UK PR asking for an update on what's happening and I'll post a reply + news story as soon as we get a response.

OK, the official response from Panasonic UK is that the BBC iPlayer upgrade is "under final testing now", and they hope to have the results soon. We'll keep you posted.

I've got a pair of Panasonic TVs (42" plasma and 37" LCD) and have been following the whole iPlayer upgrade story on a handful of websites over the last few months.

My thoughts on the iPlayer? I look at it once in a while online. I suppose, yes, it will be nice to have your TV actually deliver additional content, and yes, it will be nice not to have to rely on recording BBC content via a Sky box, but in truth isn't it always the case that the final destination is nowhere near as good as the journey to arrive there?

Once iPlayer arrives it will no doubt prove lumpy and slow to use and low-res in both visual and audio quality (cue the disdainers); anyone remotely interested in quality will likely use it a few times and quietly forget that it's even a function their TV has.

Looks like the rollout of the i-player for 2009 Panny models has started. Various forums are reporting that you can update your software via VieraCast and if you're model doesn't have VieraCast there will be an over-the-air update starting from 7th Sept.

I would add links but I believe that breaks forum rules.

I've been away, so may have missed it.

Does anyone know if the update for iPlayer is out for 2009 Panny's?

If so, was if painless?

Thanks

Serenity
