iPhone ringtones

Having recently got myself a iPhone I was somewhat miffed to find out that I cant use my music files as a ringtone so I am stuck with the naff ones that the phone comes with

Is there a way to use/make a new ringtone from a existing mp3 file???

My friend's iPhone has a Stones song as the ringtone and I'm assuming that didn't ship with the iPhone. I'll get back to you if nobody else has before I find out.
