iPhone Remote Speed

Hi guys - finally got my Iphone 3gs. I have setup the remote function to control the lossless music on my PC with ease. At the moment I only have half of my CD collection on my PC.

I just wanted to know about the speed of the remote software. At points there can be a small lag between the song changing and the phone updating the new song information. This is with the Shuffle on the iPhone. Is this normal & are there any tips to increase the speed of the remote to PC system?

I have an up to date PC (Quad Core), 'Excellent' Signal strength too.

Which app are you using to remotly control your iTunes libary on your PC (might sound silly but I did not know you could do this

Define small - I think there is a small pause on mine, but it's not really noticeable.

hi professorhat - well sometimes the song changes are quick but there is a lag for the actual phone to update itself with the new album artwork. (this is normally 1 second - sometimes it goes on for about 7 seconds before the artowkr shows up.

Sometimes changing songs/changing volume/pause/next track is none resposive for about 10 seconds and when it does become responsive it does all the actions you have been frantically pressing at once lol.

It only happens now and again 10% of the time.

Yup, about a second for the artwork to update is normal for me, never longer than 2-3 seconds.

Not had this at all personally. Are you using your wireless network for anything else? Mine is purely for Airport Express, all my other connections are hard-wired in round the flat meaning there's never any competition for bandwidth on the wireless. Possibly at the moment the non-responsiveness is occurring, your PC or some other device is connecting to something over the wireless?

I've experienced this lag at times with my iPhone 3G since I first tried the app.

Skipping tracks sometimes give me a 1 second lag, however the artwork can sometimes take a fair bit longer. I'm guessing that it might just be normal, by the time the artwork gets sent from iTunes, resized on the phone etc...

May also be because of the Wi-Fi chip on the phone too. I find that viewing some YouTube clips - mainly music videos - can take an age to load, this is connected to the same router as my Mac which starts playing straight of and the clips downloaded in no time!

I left my house earlier today and my iPhone told me that there was an update for the Remote (over 10MBs) & it informed me it would download & install when in a Wifi connection area again. Came home, updated by itself and now everything occurs within a 1second lag. Excellent. Digital Heaven!

Wow this is a really cool app and will be very handy come the next BBQ at mine, FYI I hardly have any lag worth noteing.

Just FYI, with the latest version of iTunes (can't remember whether it's 8.0 and up or just the very very latest one), Party Shuffle has been replaced by iTunes DJ, and users can 'request' songs to be played next from the remote. V cool.

You're welcome! My Mac is still in turmoil from an upgrade so hadn't spotted this - I see it's now OS 3.0 tested so this might have been the issue. Need to update myself now!
