I know this is a boring question but my boss at work asked me today if i knew if any indoor ariel would enable a freeview box to work once the digital switchover has taken place? He wants to put a freeview box in his kids bedroom and doesnt have an external ariel either on his roof or in his loft, and me having sky multiroom dont really have a clue about freeview or the digital switchover. Can anyone please help, so that i can answer his question???

Kind Regards

Andy

Most indoor ariels will work with Freeview with varying success. I've used a basic loop ariel and a One For All indoor 'digital' aerial (not amplified) and the One For All one gave slightly better results. From experience getting it near to a window gives you a better picture too.

So basically you can buy fairly cheap indoor arial that can potentially work but results can vary. I often find the sweet spot where I get all the chanels I want and then for no reason I need to reposition everything.

Great stuff, thanks for your reply and advice ... much appreciated

There is no yes/no answer to this, but as a general rule i'd say no he's not going to get decent result's with an indoor aerial.....unless he's in spitting distance of a transmitter.

But tbh there's lots of thing's to take into account with freeview even using an outdoor aerial to be able to answer that question,

such as what/how powerful is the local transmitter, distance from the transmitter, terrain between transmitter and his location, clear line of site i,e no tall tree's building's that may cause problems etc, etc.etc
