In the market for a new set

I'm after a new set, and i'm after a bit of advice.

I currently have a Sony KDL40W4500, which a few years ago got TV of the year.

I've narrowed it down to the LG 47LW650T or Samsung UE46D7000.

I was wondering would the picture be that much better than the Sony? i realise the sets i am looking at have newer technology, i'm mainly interested in the picture quality on Sky HD (movies and sports) Blu Rays and gaming. 3D and web TV would be nice to have i guess.

Any comments would be appreciated.

i know 3d is not a priority right now, but it may be worth noting that according to reviews the lg's passive 3d is very good, with hardly any crosstalk, and reviewers seem to find there is less eye strain than when using the active glasses that the samsung uses. plus you get 7 pairs of glasses that are very cheap should you need to replace them.

if sky 3d or 3d gaming was ever on the agenda the lg might make more sense, especially if you have kids (you won't be worried about them breaking expensive glasses) or would like to watch sports in 3d with friends (i think you only get two pairs of active glasses with the samsung).

Thanks for the reply, does anyone have any information on the quality of the 2d pictures on the news sets compared to the Sony i already have.

The LG is a few hundred pounds cheaper which is always good.

Hi,

you could hold out a bit longer as the new HX923 is due and WHF should have it there for testing, its Sony's new flagship model and i'm currently waiting for the 55",

i note that you currently own the KDL40W4500 which i'm astonished to find has escaped the screen issues associated with this set, i have a loaner here at the moment whilst waiting for my new one and have watched this deteriorate with line after line appearing on the screen!,
