I'm currently setting up a lossless digital audio streaming setup for home with my music stored on a PC and streamed (wireless) via an Airport Express to my Arcam amp, via a DAC.

My dilemma is over the choice of DAC. I've been looking at the usual suspects, e.g. Fubar, Beresford, DACMagic, but came across the iBasso D10 DAC and this looks like a nice solution as it's really portable. It would also use the DAC at the office for streaming FLAC files from my PC at work into headphones.

Does anyone have experience with the iBasso D10 that they can share? By all accounts the iBasso DACs seem very high quality, but am looking for some first hand experience.

We've an iBasso DAC First Tested in the June issue that goes on sale May 6th. Given that it's Saturday night, with all the mental strain that implies, I can't rightly recall the model number. I'll get back to you on Monday morning.

Thank you Simon. I'll definitely be checking out the review in the mag.

Overall, how did you find the sound quality of the iBasso unit? Is it comparable with the competition? Also, what did you think of the build quality of the iBasso DAC you tested? I'm just a little concerned about a brand I've never heard of.

Monday morning. Praise the dawning!

It's an iBasso D2 DAC in the upcoming June issue. Any discussion of sound quality will have to wait until the review is published, but you certainly don't need to have any worries about build quality if our D2 is anything to go by.

The iBasso D10 was very well thought of on the headfi message board, it is on my list of things to buy soon.

Yep, I first saw discussions about the D10 on Head-fi.org

I just noticed that the iBasso D10 uses a Wolfson WM8740 DAC, as used in the Cambridge Audio DACMagic. A portable DACMagic... now I'm really interested!

Thanks for this, I was going to start a topic asking about the build quality of iBasso (which looks good from photos), but you've already answered it

any chance of a D10 review =)

Yes, I'd definitely like to see a review of the iBasso D10 by the What HiFi? team.

Interestingly, the D10 comes with a selection of OPAMPs so you can customise the sound characteristics to suit your tastes. Just found this blog entry on Head-Fi.org documenting a diary of rolling OPAMPs on the iBasso D10. I really like the flexibility this little device offers.

is the main logic board in case anyone is curious, clearly shows the Wolfson DAC etc

Doesn't show the other side where you can do the opamp rolling though
