I am happy with my system but i hate my speaker stands (Atacama Nexus 6) I would like to replace them with some compact floor standers.

I have looked at:

Spendor A3 - out of my price range. (not auditioned)

Rega RS3 - These look and sound fantastic - but will have to wait a few months before I can afford them.

Did a search on eBay and found I had missed some Raga R3's by a couple of days (would have snapped them up)

Any suggestions for other compact floor standers?

My other alternative is to change the stands, I have narrowed them down to:

Atacama Aurora 6

Quadraspire QX600

Quadraspire QV60

Try and have a demo of some monitor audio bx5's or perhaps for some used rs5's. Both are very sensitive and easy to drive.

I dont think your marantz would be able to drive the little spendors with only 84db sensitivity.

Or just keep saving a little longer and get the rega's as you liked them.

What don't you like about the stands? If it's the aesthetics how about some wooden ones?

I have Quad 11L's (original) in birds eye maple that sound and look great. The problem is the silver/grey chunks of metal they are sitting on looks really naff.

if you're really happy with your speakers, just get some new stands. some you like the look of.

Partington Super dreadnoughts; mass loaded, IMO, they're hard to beat.

However I'm selling mine as I want some small floostanders for my Marantz set-up; more than likely going to the M/A BX5's but could be persuaded to go down the Rega RS5, Neat Motive 2 or PMC GB1i route if I can find them at a decent price 2nd hand

Thats more like it philpub, now if only they do them in birds eye maple we have a winner.

These stands are seriously simple things to make and any half decent joiner should be able to produce a pair with no trouble . If he is any good he should be able to make them in any wood that is available . You may have to pay more for them as a bespoke item but you would be getting what you want ,

I've just bought some of the Custom Speaker stands in light oak and with a wax finish to match my Quad 12L2's in cherry. It will look stunning.

Style & Design basics 101 my good man.

Unless somethings' an exact match (which you won't get in woods like Cherry)then trying to match will look too forced and odd as they'll kinda be the same but not quite.

So, what you do is go for something that still looks in it's place but not too forced - i.e. a different type of wood, still a light colour, but not to similar that it won't look like it's meant to match but doesn't.

Also, got them at 72cm high, which is 2x the height of the Quads - another style principal - that of thirds 🙂

Hope I've helped impart some knowledge 🙂
