I have just purchased a new Pansonic TH42PZ85B Full HD, but when watching tennis I can see two tennis balls.  There appears to be a slight ghosting as the ball is hit at speed.  Have I a faulty TV?  Same seems to apply when watching football.

Id guess SOMETHING is turned ON in the menu settings that shouldnt be (I generally find the best setting for tvs is to turn EVERYTHING off you can)

No probs, I have the same tv btw.

Have you tried calibrating the picture with the THX optimiser found on some dvd's ? Makes a big difference as the factory defaults are miles off. Chapter 5 of this video explains how to use it. You need to do this for each of the picture modes that you use (Normal,Cinema and Eco...... avoid the other mode as the contrast/brightness is too much). The "warm" colour mode is also the best one to use, with Cinema being the closest to the D65 standard.

I set mine up on Cinema for movies, Normal I set up for games on the PS3 as it was a bit too dark on Cinema during the day and Eco I use for normal tv viewing as it saves a few £'s on the electric.

Hello,

I was after some tips for my new 46PZ81 but for some reason the audio on this link does not work on my PC. Did you use these settings from new or do you have to run in for "x" hours on reduced settings? The manual does not mention anything, but several posts recommend running in is necessary.

Thanks

Richard

Setup via the THX optimisor on lucasfilms DVD's e;g. Star Wars etc. after about 100 hours - redo the THX setup as the Plasma will have stabilised/burnt in and adjustment may be needed. This will ensure optimum performance.

Thanks a lot for the link to the video on setting up a TV.

I have the Finding Nemo DVD so should there be a THX optimiser on this and, if so, where do I find it?

Did you use the THX specs?

If the disk has the THX certified label on it , it will have the optimiser on it. It's strikes me as odd but on star wars optimiser is under language selection

Disney and Pixar DVDs (I'm thinking Finding Nemo here) also have the THX Optimiser (normally found under Set-up). Useful bit of tech.

Thanks a lot. Will fish (pardon the pun!) out my Finding Nemo DVD and see if I can find the THX Optimiser under set-up.

Did any of you use the THX specs?

momo 72 I have just noticed that you have the predecessor to the 37X10 which I will be getting next week and wondered whether you have the same settings for TV and DVD? I don't really want to be faffing about with different settings for different sources if possible.

I didn't have the glasses so set mine up without them. You just have to set the colour up by eye if you don't have the glasses.

I purchased DVE on Blu-ray which does come with a card with 3 different coloured strips to use when calibrating. More complicated to use than the free THX optimiser, but I now have a better picture after tweaking the settings with DVE.

Im not sure if your tv works the same as mine Scotsgirl, but you only need to do this for each picture mode that you use(Cinema,Eco etc) and not for each input you use. So basically I can watch a film on my PS3 on Cinema and then flick over to SKY and use the same mode if I want, without having to fiddle with the settings again. If that makes any sense.

One thing to remember is to calibrate your tv in your normal viewing lighting conditions. So for example I normally watch films on my PS3 at night time with the lights down low (on a dimmer switch). So I set up Cinema mode at night time with the lights down low for vieiwng films. This can be a bit too dark if you are viewing in the daytime, especially for games. So I set up Normal and Eco in the daytime for normal tv viewing and games.

If you don't like the calibrated picture then don't be afraid to adjust it by eye until you are happy. If the picture looks good to your eyes thats all that matters.
