Unless it's a temporary change, the news section is once again using a vertical chronological listing of posts. I can actually scan and find what I want again. Well done.

I think WHF's staff have gone into 'bunker' mode, keeping their heads down, making no replies and hoping it'll all go away.

Whoopee! The news section is now formatted vertically. It doesn't alter the fact that the search engine is useless and every comment ever left on any news item or blog (pre-website update) has disappeared.

Even the heartfelt comments - from her friends and ex-colleagues - were deleted from this obituary ...

http://www.whathifi.com/news/caroline-osborn-1945-2014

Sixty eight comments have been deleted from this item ...

http://www.whathifi.com/news/great-cable-debate-crossed-wires

The 'Report' button is a joke. Either it doesn't work or no-one gives a t### anymore about spam, traders masquerading as ordinary posters, offensive language etc. Not only that, but the 'report' button no longer appears under the original post but only subsequent posts. So you can't report the spammers themselves.

On an iPhone the 'Feedback' button is huge and intrusive. Things have improved on iPads (but only since the iOS 8.0.2 upgrade so probably none of WHF's doing). It no longer freezes up when typing and full text editing is possible again.

No-one can leave comments on reviews anymore. (And - of course - all the old comments have been stripped away.) What's that about?

Chebby,

It's hardly a surprise that the comments on http://www.whathifi.com/news/great-cable-debate-crossed-wires have been deleted, given that the piece was massacred. A glowing example of the tripe that gets into print.

Generally to anyone at WHF Towers,

The performance of the website has improved but can you sort out the pages jumping? Where there are advertising panels at the top of pages, it is impossible to scroll down the page normally. The page suddenly jumps out of and then back into the advert panel and is very tiring on the eyes.

Oh! and what's with "Anonymous" as Forum posters? I thought one had to be signed up, to post on the Forum? As per http://www.whathifi.com/forum/tvs-and-projectors/sony-kdl32w5810-totally-unreliable

I don't think WHF care about us any more. We seem to have been left to our own devices. It does seem like there is tumble weed blowing around this neck of the woods.

New people are posting and for what ever reason I seem to be the only one replying outside of the Hi-Fi section anyway. I don't mean that exclusively as there are plenty of new posts the most of you reply to. Of course it's up to us what we reply to or ignore.

A month or 2 ago these forums were quite active but it seems to have gone quite. Dave is back too so I was expecting more from him.

You ok Dave?

Oh dear....

I was only just thinking I ought to post somewhere that I've noticed steady improvements. The yellow box thingy at the top has gone, and posting with iPad seems slightly less problematic. The menu at the top shrinks now too. And only one spam false alert this week!

Must admit I don't look at the News any more for the reasons listed above, but we ought to encouage the progess...

Actually I really shouldn't have started this. I really don't do movies, don't watch them, not interested at all.

The last time I actually went to the cinema was in Adelaide, south Australia on a wet tuesday afternoon in 1988, Adelaide was shut.

Glacial, mostly whenever possible I do not live in the uk. Given the choice I would like to be in my house in Andalucia but family 'business' has kept me in the uk for some years with no end in sight.

We can switch comments on reviews back on if people want, although you can now submit a user review as well. As for all the comments from the old site, unfortunately we weren't able to migrate them across to the new platform which is why they no longer appear. Not ideal, I know, but it was due to a technical issue, not something we chose to do deliberately.

Thanks. By the way, I'm sure those comments chebby was talking about above were still on the site after the last attempt at a rebuild a few weeks ago. They only seem to have vanished with whatever the 'boffins' did this week.

AS you are back writing again I thought I would repeat the questions I put at #6. I guess you missed it???

Generally to anyone at WHF Towers - Now specifically Andy,

Perhaps I could have a response ANDY, given that you managed to reply to various other posts either side of the above being asked. Or is it one of those questions that is too difficult to answer, so ignore it and hope it will go away??????? *dash1*

With it being the WHF Awards tonight - complete with both an event and an awards website to launch live later - I'd expect the team to be rather quiet on the Forums today...

Re the 'Anonymous' thing - that used to signify that the user's account had been deleted, though not necessarily all the posts. Not sure if it's the same under the new system, but could be.

Thanks Clare, yes we are a bit busy right now what with the Awards and all
regular_smile.gif
. However, to answer relocated's questions, we removed the previous 'tile structure' on the Homepage and other landing pages because they were taking too long to load and did jump around a lot.

We've also transferred the site to new servers to help speed things up.

As for the ads, they load after the editorial content and while they do still cause things to move around a bit, the pages do load much more quickly now. The 'anonymous' thing on Forum posts is a bug, and one we are investigating, but for the last few weeks the top priority has been redesigning the Awards section of the website and getting that ready for tonight's results to go live.

"If you ask nicely"???????? This was the THIRD time of asking nicely, when you were replying to various other posts, as I have already indicated. This is not the first time that I have had to 'bump' questions or SHOUT; the question, but most importantly the problem, doesn't go away so I don't understand your stance.

The problem is that, despite the changes that have been made for the better, navigating down the page ["landing pages" and forum pages] causes unnecessary flashing and jolting of the pages. Move the page down and as you go to select the item, the page snaps and you are on a different item altogether.

I don't ask questions to amuse myself. I ask questions and make comments to try to make you aware of problems and to help. I didn't screw the website up, you did that perfectly well your selves.

I trust that your Awards evening goes well and that no effort will then be spared to get things sorted out - while you still have a few people around who are still interested in the future of WHF.

Thanks for your input. I to imagined that the team would be busy so was prepared to wait it out. Until I saw various other posts being responded to, with mine ignored. It has unfortunately been the way since the website screw-up; respond to the easy questions [ + sycophants] and repeat what is already in evidence, but avoid the more difficult stuff.

Perhaps if you weren't quite so aggressive in your questioning (I'm being polite there btw) they might be more inclined to entertain your questions.

As you (or someone else) will no doubt say, it does take one to know one, and you are being a right one recently...

BTW, I've not experienced any of the "leaping about" that you've referred to, perhaps it's not a common issue?

On the PC it is fine but on my iPad mini yes it does jump around, most annoying as you go to click on something and it's moves and you get something else instead. Maybe it's the adverts loading?
