How to set up a home karaoke system

Setting up a home karaoke system may seem like a mammoth-sized challenge if you don’t understand how some electronic audio equipment works but with some patience and the steps provided below, you could get your karaoke running in no time at all. Although the methods for setting one up is numerous with some pretty dated, after analyzing all the requirements, the steps below will show you how best to set up a karaoke system with a pretty current list of songs.

‘Step 1’
Speaker, mic, mixer/audio receiver

The most important tools you will need are; two wireless mics and a receiver, PA power speaker, mixer and a karaoke player, which in this case would be your laptop. You will also need some pretty decent cables; Including HDMI, RCA and shielded XLR cables.

‘Step 2’
Connect your laptop to your tv and mixer

Connect the laptop to your tv using HDMI, this will enable you to project your laptop screen to the tv for the visual aspect of karaoke for the easy sing-along. Use an RCA cable to connect the laptop from the audio jack to the mixer.

‘Step 3’
Connect the mic receiver to the mixer

Connect the wireless receiver to the mixer using a quarter-inch to XLR cable. The receiver will send the signal to the wireless mic and vice versa.

Connect your powered speaker to the mixer

Using a quarter-inch to XLR cables connect the speaker to the mixer. The choice of a powered PA speaker is for the best processing of vocal sounds and the inbuilt amplifier.

Choose your preferred player

After all the connections are set up, you can either use a profession song software for the karaoke on your laptop such as, KaraFun or Karaoke Version that gives you access to thousands of on-demand and latest songs in karaoke format. Or you can stream karaoke songs from YouTube on your laptop as it is being projected to the tv.

Configure your settings

With things straight out of the box, the audio may be a mess, use the mixer to set up things like volume, echo, reverb, bass and other available options.
