Hi, my system is an Elac FS 147 and Pio A30. It still does not have the sound I heard in the listening room, but I know I should place them differently. However, would I get more bass with e.g a Marantz pm 8005?

gasolin said:It's not just buy a subwoofer connect it and expect perfect bass, it takes a long time so adjust a subwoofer so you only noticed it when you turn off the subwoofer, maby people do tend to adjust the gain on the subwoofer way to high
TrevC said:In a long room the speakers should always be positioned on one of the shorter walls due to the wavelength of bass sounds. Forget about changing the amp, and Gazzip's suggestion of a subwoofer is an excellent one.
Subwoofers are not easy to integrate into a two channel music system. Your right about it being ok with surround as suppose to 2 channel music. Adding a sub will improve bass light music, but when playing bass heavy music it can become a problem. You find your self having to adjust the sub from time to time. I would go with change of speakers if this option is possible.gasolin said:also for best sound i know many people prefere not to use a subwoofer, they think it's only okay to use one in a surround set up

Exactly, that's why i use 2 subwoofers for my surround set up, i couldn't get it to work perfect for my sound system i use with my pc (no av amp) so now i have 2 subwoofer for movies instead 1 (although its not that power full)
lpv said:luckily there are systems where sub integration is a piece of cake

If your room is the size of a concert hall it won't matter, but one cycle of a 75Hz sound wave is about four meters long, so idealy you don't want it hitting a wall before then.

received.. in a long room, does it matter for bass on which wall monitors are?
Hey! I thought 20 quid Currys specials were supposed to be just as good as those fancy-smancy models you mentionedgasolin said:You get better bass, more controlled, less muddy, boomy
That amp (pioneer A30) is nothing special, might be fine for many people, but for speakers like the Elac FS 147, it's not good enough, mabye good enought for boston a's,dali zensor, monitor audio bx,Wharfedale diamond 220/225.......
