Hi

We used to watch TV via our Sony DVD / HD recorder with its built in Freeview. We now have a Pana plasma with built in Freeview so need to know how to link in the recorder.

I'm more concerned about the quality on the TV rather than the recordings. I guess taking the aerial cable from the TV and putting it into the recorder and another RF cable out of the recorder into the TV and a scart cable to output from the recorder to an AV input on the TV for playback of recorded material.

But - won't 'splitting' the aerial cable this way degrade the quality but adding in an extra component?

What I'd really like to do is have a clean signal into the TV and then output this to the DVD recorder. The recorder is RDRHXD560S and has no HDMI.

Help gratefully received!

Cheers

RH

What I did for this was buy one of those aerial booster devices which had 4 outputs (can get them from Dixons / Currys) - this allowed me to send two to my PVR's twin tuners, one to my TV and one to my receiver for FM (not a proper FM aerial I know, but better than a little piece of wire). Works a treat without all the hassle of daisy chaining them.

Hi all

In case you're interested I've taken the aerial cable via the DVD recorder. Only have cheapie fly leads at the but rather than being a compromise to the picture on the telly, it seems to improve it. Perhaps the recorder has a booster?

Check out the signal strength and condition meters on the TV with your current configuration and then with a direct connection to the TV only.

My guess is you'll see some signals as over strength on the TV (meters) with the direct connection. The older Panasonic we have does not like this condition any more than it likes a poor signal. The newer one is wired via a daisy chain from the DVD so does not have the overstrength issue.
