How to get uniform sound from pc / WMP?

I have finally started to rip my cd collection to my pc. Everything is ripped at the same

bit rate (~320kbps), but playback shows up varying sound volumes depending on age of disc.

Is there a simple way of balancing output so all play at the same volume? I use a Sony Vaio

laptop to Onkyo 875 AV receiver via a Music Fidelity V-DAC.

You dont say what program u are using to play music...

...but for windows media player

1. click on arrow at bottom right to switch to now playing.

2. right click to bring up contextmenu, select enhancements -> Crossfading and auto levelling -> turn on auto levelling.

Does this setting remove dynamics from the music or is it just to reduce differences between cd's?
