Please can anyone tell me how to get the BBC i Player on PS3? I have an year old PS3 40G player. I was at someone's house recently and their kids showed me some of their games on a PS3 same as mine. During this I have noticed that they had a program called TV between Video and Game icons the on the XMB and there it had the i Player. When I asked them how did they get that, they replied " we downloaded it" but couldn't elaborate further. When I got home I downloaded the current version 3.2.1 but no TV icon or i Player. During the download PS3 froze twice other than that no other ill effects so far. Please can you help?

Thanks very much

I beleive (but please don`t quote me on this) that the BBC I player was included with the previous update version BEFORE the latest one ??, as when I updated mine before the current version ...the I Player appeared in the PS3 menu. How you go about down loading the i player now I just don`t know (i don`t think the latest update has it) .

I had the same problem as you described on uploading 3.2.1 on my Phat 40g PS3 that it froze (twice) , but on the 3rd attempt it uploaded fine.... although I`ve heard a few people arn`t happy with the latest version as it stops you using another operating system or something (LINUX????) and I`ve heard that there is also an issue with Bluray playback?? but havent looked into it yet.. maybe some one here could enlighten us on this???

I have a 60 GB Phat ps3 the BBC I player was added as a feature is a previous update. I suppose you could just update your firmware and this will give you it. I believe the 40 GB doesn't have the option of Operating Install so there shouldn't really be any reason for you not to upgrade to the latest firmware. As soon as you do the update (It'll probably take a while) you should get the BBC Iplayer icon as you mentioned before.

Im not sure how the PS3 will update your firmware it might as you to upgrade to 3.0 for example then 3.01 etc instead of jumping straight to the latest one. So just a heads up if it doesn't work straight away.

The latest firmware update includes all added features and fixes that pervious updates add, so you should have BBC I player by updating to the latest, as the PS3 does not allow back dating firmware's.

If you try updating the same firmware again does your PS3 say you have the latest installed?

As stated the problem should be solved by updating the firmware.

Doing so now will skip all those in between but this should not matter as they are added to as opposed to re-written I believe.

If you cannot get a connection via wireless etc you can download on the PC and burn to disc or USB memory etc.

Good luck, shouldn't need it.

Hello,

Take all the advice above BUT after you download the firmware update turn the console off then back on again and you will have the i-player logo in the TV section as you described! I have a PS3 and a few of my friends had the same problem when it was released, after downloading the firmware the i-player still wasn't showing on the PS3 menu and the TV section wasn't there either but this solved the issue.

I have a 15 month old 60Gb (fat) PS3. Wasn't aware that SW updates have included a BBC iPlayer logo/shortcut. I've just been accessing iPlayer by running the web browser (Internet) and then going to www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer and the website detects that I'm using a PS3.

Thank you very much for your replies. I have tried all suggestions above but had no luck with it. However having researched further that and I was informed by someone that I may have not registered with PSN. It was suggested that I should do that first. Once you've done that then go to the GAME tab and open one of the available games and close it and then turn the PS3 OFF and turn it ON again. Believe or not it (square icon and the I player icon below it) appeared between the VIDEO and GAME tabs. I have no idea how one is supposed to know such things but was so pleased with the out come!!! So give it a go! It is so much easier to use the I player this way. Thanks again for your responses.
