Hi all. I am ripping my CDs to flac format using dbPoweramp CD Ripper. It doesn't retrieve the cover art and for the moment at least I haven't commited to purchasing the Reference or Power Pack versions. So... is there a way to rip JUST the cover art (folder.jpg) from a CD?

The CD will not contain the cover art. Cover art is (usually) automatically downloaded via the internet by the ripping software. If DB Power amp is not finding the artwork, there are a number of free programs that will find them for you.

Just carry on ripping your CD's, once complete, set about finding a free bit of software to scan your whole library & get the artwork.

How far are you into ripping?

If you've just started I'm pretty sure that 'Exact Audio Copy' will find artwork as it rips to Flac. Google Exact Audio Copy to get to there website, click 'download' on the left menu. Make sure you download the right file, as normally there are a few adverts on the page saying 'DOWNLOAD NOW!!' which will download the wrong software.

If you have already ripped a bunch of CD's you can try some of the free music manager software such as Winamp, or Media Monkey. Just get the free version, load it up, point it to your library, and then try and find the 'album artwork' setting. Do a test on a couple of rips to a) make sure it works b) the album artwork is still there when you uninstall the software (assuming you don't want to keep it as your music mananger).

Edit: I use Exact Audio Copy (EAC for short), and it works really well, not frills, just a good bit of software.

Hi. There is method if you don't want to get to grips with another piece of software etc. and use dbpoweramp. Follow this:

1. In your search engine, search for 'the name of the album' in the title box and tell it to search for images. You should get a choice.

2. On that images web page, drag image to your desktop. Right click, rename to folder.jpg.

3. In dbpoweramp, the bottom far right corner has an icon of a CD and above this are controls. The furthest right of these is a '+' sign, click on this and the drop down menu will allow you to load the 'folder.jpg' image from the desktop (1st option). This CD image will change the new Album Image and will be included when you rip the CD.

A small point, just in case you have missed it. Top of the screen in dbpoeramp is an icon called Metadata (i think). Click on this and from the dropdown choices click on all the search options there to make sure that dbpoweramp is looking where it should. I think the boxes to the left of the option turn to a darker gray when activitated.

Good luck.
