How to Connect a Turntable to Your Home Music System

Old-timey record players exude the charm that modern day music streaming devices cannot. However, modern day music systems do allow you to connect turntables to them so you can enjoy the old players with a new sound. This tutorial will walk you through the steps required to connect a turntable to your home music system.

Step 1
Connect the auxiliary cable to the turntable

Connect an auxiliary (aux) or phono cable to your turntable. You will find the port at the back of the turntable. This will initiate the connection between the turntable and the receiver.

Step 2
Connect the turntable to the receiver

Connect the other ends of the aux or phono cable to the aux or phono (depending on the cable) input ports at the back of your receiver. This will ensure sound transmission from the turntable to the receiver.

Step 3
Connect the speakers to the receiver

Connect the speakers to the appropriately labeled ports on the receiver. This will prepare the home music system for audio transmission.

Step 4
Press the Aux button

Press the Aux button on the music system. This will set up the connection between your turntable and home music system.

Put a record on the turntable

Put your favorite music record on the turntable. Your home music system will now be able to play the music from your turntable records.
