There are two primary types of subwoofers available in the market, sealed and ported subwoofers. The subwoofer you choose will depend on multiple factors including the size of your room. You can also have multiple subwoofers connected to your home theatre system.
In this tutorial we provide a step by step breakdown of these factors that will help you choose the right subwoofer for your home theatre system.
Sealed subwoofers
Sealed subwoofers are compact devices that can provide you high bass sounds with absolute clarity. If you listen to a lot of loud bass-oriented music on your home theatre system, then you should consider a sealed subwoofer. But keep in mind that these consume a lot more power than their counterparts.
Ported subwoofers
Ported subwoofers can achieve the same bass level as a sealed one with lesser power, but what it does is it spreads the bass sound rather than contain it. So, if you are watching a movie that has a lot of explosion or action sequences, a ported subwoofer will be the perfect match for your home theatre system.
Multiple subwoofers
If you are a connoisseur of both music and films then you can get both i.e. a ported and a sealed subwoofer. If you connect both of them into your AV receiver then you will be able to calibrate the bass settings as per necessary.
Keep in mind that ported subwoofers are usually quite large, and if your home theatre space is compact than a sealed subwoofer is your best choice.
