Hi, ive connected my sky HD box via HDMI direct to my amp, then of course from the amp to the plasma, ive also got my sky box connected to my amp with an optical lead, but im only getting pro logic & not 5.1 etc so obviously i have to do some sort of setting letting my amp know? if i unplug the HDMI lead from out the amp i get 5.1, my amps the pioneer lx70 any ideas as to how i change this setting? Thanks.

As far as I know, only a few of the Sky channels use Dolby Digital 5.1 - the Sky movie channels and the Sky HD sports channels. You should get those through your optical lead. Make sure you have enabled Dolby Digital in the Optical Output setting in the Sound Settings menu.

I'm having the same problem with my Onkyo 606, Sky HD and PZ85. Put Sky movies on that I know is in Dolby Digital, HDMI connections from HD box to AMP to TV and AMP displaysnormal surround modes. Use HDMI from HD box to TV and Dolby D appears on the AMP display. It's like the HDMI lead is is preferred to the optical cable I have from HD box to AMP. I have assigned the optical ins on the AMP but it does not seem to pick them up when HDMI is connected from HD box to AMP.

Any ideas pleas !

I think, fishyfella, the receiver is set to prioritise the HDMI input. See manual pp 43-46, and particularly p46, for how to get round this.
