How can I use my pioneer sc-lx86 to play sound from my tv?

A couple of days ago, I bought a Panasonic TX-P42GT60 tv. This is the first smart tv I've owned, and since I'm a huge Youtube fan, I've already enjoyed many hours watching Youtube clips on my new tv set. The sound of the Panasonic tv isn't awful, but I would much rather be able to redirect the tv sound to my pioneer av-amp and dedicated speakers. Does anyone know the best way to do this (preferably throught hdmi)? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the info.

I've connected the tv to my amp using the hdmi2 slot on the panasonic tv, because that's the one supporting arc. I've used the hdmi out 1 slot on the pioneer amp, because that's the one I'm supposed according to the amp manual. Is the problem that the hdmi out 1 slot on the amp isn't capable of receiving audio signals?

Also, I've looked for the audio settings menu, but it doesn't have the option to output sound via hdmi to my receiver. There are just some settings to play with.

In order for ARC to work, the HDMI link mode needs to be active on the tv, so make sure VIERA link is switched on in the settings menu, then access the viera link app from the app menu, select home theatre, sound should then output. If that doesn't work, switch hdmi control option 'on' on the AVR also.

If you've connected the 'audio out' signal from your TV to the 'HDMI Out - 1' socket on the amp then that may well be your problem (you've connected it to an output, not an input); try connecting it to one of the 'HDMI In' sockets on the amp instead.

Unfortunately that won't work. Audio out from a television via HDMI will only work so long as both devices support ARC (Audio Return Channel). This will only function via the ARC supported HDMI output from the AVR.

I've got it working, but I have to turn the tv's audio off, because otherwise I have audio through the tv's speakers and the speakers connected to the Pioneer amp. I thought that if the audio signal went through the ARC (to the amp), the tv's speakers would be cut off, but apparently, the tv's speakers keep receiving an audio signal. Is this normal?

thats still not right, try switchingoff your tv,that should switch off your amp as well if its set up right, then turn the tv on and it should switch the amp on with audio only coming from the amp,ive found switching a item on or off on its own puts everything out of sync ,that should reset it.
