How bad will this sound...?

I need some new speakers to replace my current stand-mounters (RS1s) that are becoming an ever more regular target for my toddler. My current systems is based around a Squeezebox 3 and NAD C325BEE which currently sounds fine if not spectacular. With a view to pleasing the wife and accepting that my hi-fi days may have to go on hold temporarily I'm thinking about a set of 'lifestyle' speakers that will be out of harms way and unobtrusive. I was therefore wondering if anyone had tried anything like the Bose Acoustimass 5. I accpet that they are unlikely to be 'proper' hifi, but just how bad are they likely to sound? Any thoughts or advice? Alternative would be a wallmounted set of AVI Neutrons or the like but these are a lot more costly and if I mounted them high-up on the wall they are unlikely to be delivering their full potential.

Oh yes, I see this might be best put to bed early!

Having to wire everything via the 'sub' will be a bit messy anyway so probably not the best option.

Hi-fi it remains then.

But if you have a Squeezebox get the ADM9s, as you'll upgrade the DAC, amp and speakers in one easy move. Even compared to the Neutrons on the end of the AVI monoblocs, the ADM9 are better.
