I would not dare buy hifi from HK or China. Coming from an Asian country, I know the tricks they do. You may get your amp or cd player but one or two things inside the amp has been replaced by a soon to be defective part

yeah, usually replacement parts to sell later. The best part is that the dodgy part they put inside, they can actually predict the existing life of the component ie say eg 4 months left.

Be grateful that you still can buy Made in England goods still at reasonable prices. UK manufacturers still got loads of pride and integrity. Don't even bother with ebay.

A bit naive and perhaps true in some instances but I've worked in a company producing sat/digi receivers and believe me what I saw would make the hairs on your neck stand up. I vowed then that I would never buy a product from that company, ever. These days standards and quality control have to be high for a manufacturer to survive. A lot of products coming from the far east are very well built and have design input from the UK.

That also goes for other products besides electricals. Used to work briefly in a food factory that produced for a very well known retailer, you would not believe what went on.

LOL. Not quite that bad but lets just say I dont shop at that retailer now. You would be horrified if you knew what went on. Probably the same for a lot of food producers.

I agree. The worst-built/finished product we've tested in the past year was made in the UK, sadly.

Quality has far more to do with the ethos of a company, and its QC processes, than where it's based/where it manufactures.

Very true indeed.
