Right, thought tonight i would finally install my speaker spikes. Installed and switched on...........................where has the bass gone????? is this normal or am i just used to a boomier /more resonant sound??

Sat on lino with spike cups in case that makes a difference.

Is the bass more detailed, do the notes start and stop quicker, has it moved more to the background of the music? For me the bass is part of the musical support for a track, it adds to the rythmn. I am referring mainly to bass guitar and drums. My setup has loads of bass detail, but the bass does not dominate and obscure the lower midrange. So to someone who likes driving rock or dance and has a setup that goes way down deep, they may think 'where has the bass gone?' as well.

How are the dynamics? Does the music still rock along or has it mellowed? If a loud section kicks in, do you really notice it, or is everything smoothed over?

I want detail and dynamics but not domination from the bass. Is that what has happened?

I have my R3's about 18" from the wall and spiked (through carpet) onto concrete floors with no 'toe in' at all.

I have never heard them without spikes to compare.

I love the bass as it is.

It is possible you had got used to a bit of boom without the spikes (especially if they are on suspended floorboards)

Give it a few days to acclimatise to the 'new' sound. If you have them away from the wall you could always move them a bit closer. They are not too position fussy.

Yes, the bass is a LOT more detailed, suppose it could be described as refined. Switched sources to my tuner and things did improve somewhat. I think my CDP is what could be described as bright so will listen / adjust and comment more once the rega Saturn arrives.

Think I have just got used to the bass generated on my suspended wood floor, just a case of adjusting.
