Now it could be my imagination brought on by panic but it sounds like the bass is almost completely hidden.

Basically like a plank i selected the input for the dac while the amp was on and realising the dac wasn't connected, plugged it in then of course my speakers made this big popping sound (due to the volume) I have looked at the bass drivers and visually there is no damage to them, what do you think?

Are you only getting the "tish tish tish" of the treble, with no vocals to speak of either?

If so, something is amiss. It could be the crossover, or the drive units themselves, but if the above is true, it could be dealer-time to get them looked at.

Put on something that you know has bass (reggae/dance etc). Touch the bass cone. Gently. Can you feel anything?

If so, you may be being paranoid... if not, take them to your local dealer.

Yes the things to usually go in a speaker are the drive units, you should be able to gently press them and feel free movement.

If not the coils will have fused together, replacement is the only option.

Boy must have been a serious overload for that to happen.

Both cones work but a lot more air is being pushed out of the first bass driver than the lower one?

Though that might be the case, since one is the mid range driver and the other is the woofer?

Not air, vibrations i should say

This is weird lol i used the tone controls to take all the bass off (taking it off tone defeat, put bass to normal again and put tone defeat back on again and the bass is back completely.

hi fi newbie:

Good! Damaging brand new speakers wouldn't be fun...

How do you like the AEs? I contemplated on those for a while...

I am very impressed with them to be honest, I really did like the BR2's but midrange with them was an issue, these have a very nice open midrange, a very punchy bass but not too overbearing that it takes over everything else, a very pleasant sound which never verges on sounding fatiguing. Their timing is excellent and are equally adept I think at fast music i.e. dance music, trance music etc as they are with easy listening music. They also have the power and slam to make even very heavy rock music retain it's original high octane energy without making it a clumsy harsh listening experience.

I couldn't really ask for more for 220.00 and from the accounts I have got from people on other forums to, they better the performance of many other floorstanders. To sum it up I was a little concerned that I might lose some aspects of the BR2's which I enjoyed so much and whilst floorstanders might provide a smooth listen, they may lose that exciting sound and fortunately I have not lost anything and have gained a great deal. (no pun intended)

I know Scott,...first I fill them with sand and lose all bass and then i go and cause big surge in the amp which causes me to lose the bass again, hopefully i avoid the hat trick!
