Hello,
I recently bought a whest PS.30 pre amp for my home hifi. After installing I found that there was a high pitch sound around 7k / 7.5k when the vomume is turned up without playing any music. After many experiements it seems that it only does this with the recommended load settings (47k / 55db) and also with the load one step down on 15k.
Because the noise would change when you touch the tonearm it was suggested that there is a wire/ground issue. I had the 301 Tonearm rewired with the incognito kit. Noise still there! There are lots of threads on forums from last 5 years where people have similar issues but none of the recommended solutions apply. Right now I'm playing records with load 47k and 43db (lowest db setting on whest) and there is no noise. But it has none of the dynamics and imaging that I can hear (behind the noise) when I put it on 47k / 55db (55db being the middle db setting on the whest).
From what I can read the 10x5 can prove tricky in some setups with the Rega arm / whest combination.
A borrowed turntable from a friend and two cartridges to experiment with... I can not get any combination with borrowed gear to produce the same noise. Also bringing the whest to a friends place where it sounded great and had no issues at all!
Anyone have any suggestions? I really like the Dynavetcor 10x5 cart and would like to stick to it if possible but maybe I need to change. No doubt the Whest smokes anything I've owned in the past so I would not like to change back.
FYI: All my cables are good quality shielded cables. The pre amp, turntable and amplifier are connected to a good quality built 4-way with nothing else attached to it. No TV, radio or other devices in the house.
Thanks for any tips or input!
