I appreciate you said you did not need a cd player but a great bargain system at richer sounds on this page:

OK, tricky on that budget to get the usual suspects, which would be something like a NAD 315BEE (I think that's the right number) some Diamond 9.1s (and others) and a dock, which is going to be nearer the £300 mark in this country, maybe more in Croatia. Will you consider a) 2nd hand or b) a bit at a time?

I like Missions (though whether the ones I knew were 72s or not I can't remember), and that is a good deal - team them with an amp like the NAD (or cambridge 340, or any numbre of good 2nd hand amps) and an Onkyo dock and you have a good system. Note that the Audioengines are still a neat solution if you don't expect to grow it any time soon.

Secondhand route could be good here; obviously can't comment on Croatian hifi used market, although Mrs. record_spot and I enjoyed a lovely holiday out there three years ago. Split, Dubrovnik, Trogir...all very lovely.

Looking at used prices in the hifi press and classified ads (i.e. private sale) you can get a Micromega Stage 1 for £99, a NAD 3120 for £50 and a pair of Ruark Sabres for £99. £248 all in, not counting cables.

Best advice shop around; Mission M72s were okay I think, but not their best. Not to be sniffed at, but try and listen to them if you can.

Sorry, edited my earlier post - Fopp went into liquidation, mostly as a result of their acquisition of Music Zone. However, thanksfully, some of their branches have survived and since reopened. The Edinburgh shop was doing brisk trade over Easter and likewise the London Shaftesbury Avenue/Covent Garden branch last weekend.

Deals to be had included a clutch of CDs including Oasis last album for £3, I picked up Izzy Stradlin's 2001 solo album on CD for £2. They must've had a good 30 discs for between £1 & £3 whilst their usual £5, £7, £10 deals were doing brisk turnover.

Great shop; delighted they survived - wellworth popping in if you're near one of them. Not sure which ones are left now. Need to check their website.

Yea I always quite liked them myself much better than the likes of hmv and virgin especially for your pocket. Unfortunately the nearest one to me is in Manchester so not really local at all.
