Maybe not as silly as it sounds, if you suffer from not sleeping well, due to having stressful stuff on your mind when you retire to bed, thinking/dreaming of your hifi, or winning the lottery, or counting sheep is a good way of taking your mind off the stressful stuff.

I agree about stress and sleep. I've done my stats for a month. 4 bottles of rum, 2 bottles of vodka, 2 bottles of Vermouth and 9 beers. 😵

I'm no expert but the fire may have been caused by too much oxygen in one of his cables 😀

I'm presently re-reading the book on dreams from the OUP series 'very short introductions'. Dreams have no meaning to decipher, though they often reflect elements of your life and preoccupations at any given time. The weirdness is due to a trait called hyperassociativity, in turn caused by the activation of certain parts of the brain during sleep and inactivation of others. Exactly the same reason is behind the difficulty in recalling them clearly, or indeed at all.

I'm sorry if the OP seems silly - my guess is that I've had the lid off so much that the image had lodged, and a few months ago we had an issue with a remote control socket (mercifully not near the hifi) which did overheat and start to spark/melt. No damage done, but clearly this stuck too. Still awaiting the manufacturer's response, come to think of it...
