Help with speaker choice

I have inherited a Musical fidelity A3 amp & cd player in superb condition as they only got used twice but also a pair of Acoustic energy AE120'S which are in my opinion far too large for a 12ft by 12ft room.Although the speakers sound ok i'm almost certain they need a lot more space to breathe.I have a budget of around £1200 for a new pair of speakers & would be grateful for some recommendations to audition.BTW speaker cables are QED Silver Anniversary & interconnect is Van den hul D102 mk111.Many thanks for any help you can give me.

Monitor Audio GS10 suit my MF gear well in a similarly sized room and seem to be generally well regarded as a good match for MF

Monitor Audio is a good choice. However I would look out for a pair of Ruark Sabre III. They will compliment the amps character and you'll have change for decent stands too.
